City Singers are touring Paris as I type. Last night we arrived and promptly gave our first performance. The acoustics were perfect and our organist, Tom Corfield was magnificent. It was an absolute pleasure to support Voices who as ever shone in their repertoire.
Running order version 1.
Day 2 Paris
Day 2 and we are sightseeing. Trips to Monet’s Garden at Giverny, Versailles and the Eiffel Tower filled out a very busy itinerary. When you visit Monet, it highlights why is was so inspired. It is such a tranquil location.
Day 3
Concert day but first a chance to view first hand Monet’s great works - and a range of contemporary and impressionist painters at Musèe de l’Orangerie.
Following our gallery visit we congregated at the huge neo-classical church, L'église Sainte-Marie-Madeleine. A packed audience enjoyed just over 1 hour of our repertoire and the choirs themselves thoroughly enjoyed the reception and opportunity.
Our last day in Paris
Our final day of singing and what better place that a visit to the awe inspiring Cathedral at Chartres. Packed and loaded ready for our trip home and a bus journey to the outskirts of Paris. But only after a quick but wonderful visit to Musée d’Orsay. More Monet but clocks and Polar bears to see.
The concert itself was magnificent - the location truly a privilege to sing in. There was one hiccup - our lead and conductor did get locked in the changing rooms 5 minutes before we were due to start and with no phone reception he had a bit of trouble to get out. But no matter - a short delay and the penny dropped. Like Superman, in one bound Dan was free and the music started.
Postcard from Paris, Christ Church, Belper 14th September 2019
Post tour, the majority of the team reconvened for a concert in front of friends, family and supporters. Many thanks to Christ Church and we are pleased to say £200 was raised to support the fantastic work of Medecins Sans Frontieres.
